Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration (CAA),
which is affiliated to the State Oceanic Administration (SOA)
of China, is responsible for the organization of Chinese Arctic and Antarctic
Expedition and carry out Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Scientific Program
and its logistics. In accordance with the objectives and principles of
the Antarctic Treaty, supported by the two perennial scientific research
stations, namely the China Antarctic Great Wall Station and the China
Antarctic Zhongshan Station as bases, and with R/V Xuelong as a platform,
CAA has actively carried out scientific research activities in Antarctica
and the Southern Ocean. So far, 22 large-scale Antarctic Scientific Expeditions
and 2 Arctic Scientific Expedition have been organized. The China Arctic
Yellow River Station was founded in 2004 in Ny-Alesund, Norway. China
is playing an increasingly important role in the international Antarctic
and Arctic affairs, including polar scientific research and environment
protection, and doing her part in the peaceful use of the Antarctica.
